Massage
Massage is basically the system where manual manipulation of the body's soft tissue is helping circulation, release of tension, improving skin tone, easing pain promoting health and well-being. We carry-out a wide variety of massage at our salon, ranging from therapeutic to Swedish, Aromatherapy and Hot Stones to name a few, contact us or come in and visit us at Haymarket in Edinburgh.

It is thought that the word massage derives from the Arabic 'mass' or 'Mas'h' meaning to press or push softly. One of the most ancient techniques employed massage is under estimated for promoting health and general well being. Rubbing to ease pain or discomfort is at one end of the scale of massage through to the complicated massage techniques employed at our Edinburgh salon.

Massage has evolved from a combination of all techniques from the East and West. On of the most commonly known massage technique being the a therapeutic massage created by a Swedish physiologist Per Henrik Ling (1776-1839), his creation of this scientific system of particular massage movements commonly known today as Swedish Massage. Based on five basic massage strokes: effleurage (stroking), petrissage (kneading), friction, tapotement (percussion), and vibration, each of the se massage strokes which can be used for a complete massage session for the different areas of the body.

Modern day massage is a cross breed of all the techniques from all over the world and use skill of many ever evolving techniques, many of which have their roots in the Northern Europe, India, China and Thailand massage systems. In recent times people are becoming ever more aware of the benefits of massage and the many applications massage can benefit/help - massage is used in fighting stresses and tensions of a hectic modern day lifestyle. Athletes, people enjoying sport, dancers are all included in groups who can benefit in the use of massage.
